The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is an iconic and very much popular vehicle that was built with a traditional body on frame, the popular 2-door models have slightly larger dimensions than the Jeep CJ. It was produced by Toyota from 1950 to 2001 and one of the iconic vehicles from Japan.
It had variations from the standard 2-door short, medium, and long wheelbase. But the most popular among its release is the short wheelbase version having cube-like aesthetics that is a four-wheel drive vehicle. Majorette produced two versions of their casting, and this one was the 4x4 version that lasted until 2016/2017. |
Majorette is one of the longest-running manufacturers of licensed diecast car models that features their take on similar models produced by their competitors. But their version continues to still carry quality and sometimes would feature moving parts like opening doors or bonnet/hood with working suspensions.
Over the years, Majorette continue to improve its product by keeping some of its older castings intact with having the same quality as the older version, which is slowly being phased out, and the 4x4 version of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is one of that older model that was still popular to this day.
4x4 Street Car
The Street Cars range for Majorette consists of basic models with rarely moving parts, and packaged in a shorter blister card in comparison to the mid to high-end models. This 4x4 Toyota FJ40 would be considered to be under the Vintage Cars or Racing Cars range due to being around since 1981 and is considered a legacy casting.
Introduced in the now defunct 200 Series this is the 4x4 version with larger wheels but still retains the aesthetics and function of the original FJ40. The only considerable difference is the larger wheels and the change of plastic base to accommodate the change of wheel type that is used for 4x4 or other truck models.

Land Cruising Terrain
Built with a working suspension like most current Majorette models, this 4x4 Toyota FJ40 surely takes on the toughest terrain than just being relegated as a “Street Car” is a larger scale this model certainly lives up to the name that some other models get scaled down due to the production cost.
Besides having those 4x4 wheels it features a robust metal body with a rear opening window. The quality never stops there, it has a painted metal roof in white that Majorette could have easily not painted the roof. But they added quality by painting it unlike some of the previous releases with a realistic wheel type.
Built to Last
The 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 40 may have minor changes from having a metal base in its earlier release, but it still kept its aesthetics and quality most collectors look for in a diecast model. This particular model even was not listed in the 2016/2017 catalog as this appeared in one local retail store in Pasay City in Metro Manila.
In comparison to older models, this casting is still larger scale than supposed to be smaller or the same size as a Land Rover 90 model also produced by Majorette that was discontinued in the late 2000s. Strangely, this casting just suddenly appeared in one local store in Manila and was never seen again unless you looked at online stores.
Overall, the 4x4 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 is a gem if you happen to have acquired this particular model or an older version. The scale is larger and still retains the same features as the older releases like the open rear window hatch and the plastic roof or the rare wheel type that you’ll never find in the newer models it is a great find, for those who collect the FJ40.
