HW J-Imports | Nissan Maxima

Hot Wheels has been dominant in the diecast collecting industry and continues to expand its concepts, designs, and even being edgy with its licensed cars. The rise and popularity of the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) cars have been forthcoming at the same time very popular to the point some of the releases have become rare.

With every Hot Wheels mainline release, the majority would look forward to the next JDM-licensed car or vehicle that came from Japan. On top of that Hot Wheels also produce premium editions for a specific alone and that ta captures their market interest.

But there are a few exceptions and that makes it a diverse range of cars. The Nissan Maxima is a popular station wagon that is a derivative of the Nissan Maxima 4-door sedan that lasted eight generations, which in its first generations was also called the Datsun Maxima. It is a full-size flagship sedan by Nissan that was the predecessor of the Datsun 810 but was recently discontinued.

Hot Wheels introduced the Nissan Maxima Drift Car, which is a modified version of the wagon that features a wider body due to the modified fenders flairs, and low profile that evokes the function of a drift car. The debut year was for the 2022 release that comes in Ivory with a variety of sponsors in its livery that includes MOTUL and Good Year at the same time also debuts a new FC3 wheel design.

The second release was included for the 2023 release with two alternate colours. This one comes in Metalflake Dark Red with white stripes and “Hot Wheels” in Japanese on the side and roof that also includes sponsor logos on the side. The interior is chrome that has a tinted black window while retaining the FC3 wheels from last year.

Unfortunately, just like the debut year the front and rear are unpainted, and what’s unique with this casting that attracts so much demand is the design itself having its engine exposed through the plastic tinted window covering that reveals to have the RB26 engine from a Nissan Skyline in place of the L24E inline-6.

This car is of course based on the A90 Maxima station wagon heavily modified and designed to compete with other drift cars.

Key Features of the Nissan Maxima Drift Car below:

  • Year Release: 2023 | J-Imports Subtheme
  • Base Color: Black | Plastic
  • Window: Black Tint
  • Tampo: White stripes & 'ホットホィール' on sides & roof | Unpainted Front and Rear details
  • Interior: Chrome

Design-wise it is an attractive casting that can also be used to race in the orange tracks, and the aerodynamic look surely makes it look fast, but it definitely can really go. The design can even be adapted to the real Nissan Maxima, but the tinted cover on the engine would be best left out and have the engine exposed.

The only thing that doesn’t look appealing is the rear design, and it is understandable that the budget for tampo or paint details is not available for the front and the rear is not available if there are details on the side. But everything else is impressive down to the exposure of the engine with the translucent plastic covering it.

Hot Wheels is knocking it out of the park with the designs with Nissan’s approval in making their cars extra special as diecast car models. It’s impressive enough that it’s one of the castings that are immediately sold out whenever you try to find one in the wild, and that really says about the popularity of the JDM cars that are already in their peak form that you’d be lucky to find one for yourself not bought from a scalper, of course.

“Nissan Maxima Drift Car” is part of the HW J-Imports segment series and overall 047/250 released for the 2023 year, which was acquired at Toy Kingdom in The Podium Mall for ₱ 129.75 Pesos (** $ 3.51 AUD | $ 2.35 USD). Hot Wheels is locally distributed by Richwell Global Inc in the Philippines.
