Mattel Games | Rodger Dodger

The Rodger Dodger is an iconic Hot Wheels casting that is based on a depiction of a modified ’73 Dodge Charger SE with a blown V8 poking out of the hood, one of several variations on the Bye-Focal design. It has been one of the most familiar “generics” or Hot Wheels Originals that is still produced today.

In 2021, the Dodger received a minor change on the base due to the subtheme that was released for that year that features Mattel’s popular games. This version of the Rodger Dodger features the deco/livery of the Magic 8-Ball and certainly there we a lot of variations of the same casting released.

The Magic 8 Ball is a classic collectible conceived by three inventors. Its original idea of a ball that gives you the yes/no answer by shaking the ball has been popular beginning in 1950 when the concept of an oversized pool ball with a tiny window was sold in mass retail.

Over the years, the Magic 8 Ball has become a popular paperweight or a child’s toy that is currently manufactured by Mattel after acquiring Tyco Toys in 1997 which had the rights to produce it. There have been licensed versions with their theme like Barbie or the Simpsons just to name a few.

Hot Wheels is Mattel’s flagship brand, producing die-cast cars of various themes. The 2021 mainline basic has its mini-series of subthemes that would work with new and old castings, and for that year there was the Mattel Games theme featuring deco/livery based on their card and board games.

Eight Ball Dodger

That subtheme featuring the Mattel Games in their vehicle form includes the Rodger Dodger casting. This version represents the Magic 8 Ball and with that deco/livery it has to feature that iconic yes/no answer that can be found on the base of the car. There have been eleven variations with different answers based on what the actual Magic 8 Ball gives when you shake it.

The eleventh version is not the answer to what a normal Magic 8 Ball will give, but revealing the Super Treasure Hunt version. It is a neat idea that the Hot Wheels played around on this casting, and for hardcore collectors, it is very challenging to find all phrases that say underneath the car if you dare to get them all.

Key Features of the Rodger Dodger Car below:

  • Year Release: 2021 | Mattel Games Subtheme
  • Base Color: Black | Plastic
  • Window: Clear Tint
  • Tampo: 8 ball on doors & 'Magic 8 Ball' behind rear tire, blue triangle on base with "AS I SEE IT YES" | Unpainted Front and Rear details
  • Interior: Chrome

As I see it “Yes”

This version of the Magic 8 Ball Rodger Dodger is the most common variation you will find in the pegs. It is also less difficult to find in most retail when it was in circulation during its release. The most prized among the versions is of course the Super Treasure Hunt that says that you got the car in the phrase “Super! TH.”

But regardless for those who just want the version of a Rodger Dodger having a Deco/Livery of a Magic 8 Ball the gloss black coloured car certainly catches your eye due to the sleek look of a classic iconic muscle car. The casual who would find this on the pegs would get a kick out of the idea that there’s a version of a Rodger Dodger that has the 8 Ball logo on the sides is cool enough to see this look.

Despite being retooled since 2015 with the engine now part of the interior and the exhaust now appearing on the side of the car it is still an iconic casting with the same body type that was used going back to the original released in 1974.

The Rodger Dodger is still one of the most familiar cars from the Hot Wheels brand that is still around and being released with new deco/livery that longtime collectors would still hunt for, and the casual consumer that would certainly get their attention for its aggressive look that never gets old.

“Roger Dodger” is part of the Mattel Games segment series and overall 037/250 released for the 2021 year, which was acquired at Ollie & Co in Glorietta Mall in Makati City for ₱ 119.75 Pesos ($ 3.45 AUD | $ 2.33 USD**). Hot Wheels is distributed in the Philippines by Richprime Global Inc.
