HW Graffiti Rides | VW Beetle Convertible

The Classic Volkswagen Beetle is as iconic as its name and aesthetics were initially known as the “People’s Car.” It was produced in so many iterations and variations even outselling the Ford Model T. It is a beloved car produced in diecast that became a favourite.

Hot Wheels produced an original that was part of the “Sweet Sixteen,” and then Larry Wood designed the one released in 1989 that was known as the “VW Bug” but changed to Volkswagen Beetle. Then there was a convertible version that was introduced in 2006 with no roof or hardtop, and this is the featured spotlight.

The Volkswagen Beetle Convertible will always be a favourite for most diecast collectors and casual ones who would like to start their collections before venturing to other makes and models. Though it is popular it had a shorter life compared to the “VW Bug” which was inspired by it and also designed by Larry Wood.

For a very short life span, this V-Dub Convertible was somewhat elusive and uncommon to find among the pegs. The most recent ones were starting to be attainable because the last color scheme depends if it suits the casting well. But the last ones were immediately attainable because of the colours of the wheels used.

Graffiti Bug

Just like the 1989 casting it has a metal base and an open roof was cut off to become a convertible. It is in red with graffiti graphics on both sides while it sports yellow wheels to match the yellow tinted windows. The graffiti words are challenging to read, but when you know it is street art it looks cool now.

This casting is part of the segmented sub-series themes featuring street art, and the graphics is the one selling this car. The decos stand out that add another variation using this casting. The white interior may not match the wheels and tinted windows it balances the colours used in this car that look better than its light blue version.

Key Features of the Volkswagen Beetle Convertible below:

  • Year Release: 2013 | Grafitti Rides Subtheme
  • Base Color: Unpainted | Metal
  • Window: Yellow Tint
  • Tampo: Graffiti Decos | Unpainted Rear details
  • Interior: White

Convertible Art Car

Despite not having detailed taillights this beetle still flies off the pegs. No matter if the colours are not matching to look reality this Beetle becomes immediately sold out. Comparing it to another Volkswagen model that is also part of an art theme, which has similar yellow-coloured wheels looks complimentary.

Side-by-side with its “Graffiti Rides” contemporary looks nothing like being on the same theme. But this is due to the way the writing style is different and unique to the other casting that was part of this sub-series.

“Volkswagen Beetle Convertible” is part of the Grafitti Rides segment series and overall 040/250 released for the 2013 year, which was acquired at Toys R' Ud in Greenbelt Mall for ₱ 99.75 Pesos (** $ 2.75 AUD | $ 1.83 USD). Hot Wheels is locally distributed by Richwell Global Inc in the Philippines.
