They continue to produce new castings of some of the classic cars of yesteryears with their basic mainline range or various licensed vehicles that they re-release under the Tomica Event Model. The range is a subline of previous and presently released models that are only sold through their Tomica-related events in Japan. Some of them become available through their Takara Tomy Mall. In other territories or markets outside Japan that are still within Asia, these specific models are released through an in-store event or sold at local event shows.
The models themselves are not released as they were produced in the mainline range, but they are re-released with new paint jobs with the “Tomica Event Model” present in the vehicle as part of its deco/livery while it still the same casting that was previously discontinued or presently still available with its standard colours the TEM version retains its features like opening doors or other moving parts that are present from the mainline version.
Exclusive Blind Box Edition
The regularly released models usually have box art present in the product, but with the Tomica Event Model, they only indicate the name of the casting that is packaged and have limited description as these are sort of a surprise for those going to Tomica events in Japan with the only knowledge of what the vehicle is in the box.
They usually come in a dust-free bag like the standard mainline release. There is little description in English regarding the content of the box. In the Philippines, the Tomica Event Models that are sold in their in-store events have a printout of the vehicle’s name on a sticker that covers the Japanese language description of the model.
This vehicle is based on the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series by Tomica.

Toyota Land Cruiser 70 Series
In the mainline release, the Toyota Land Cruiser (70 Series) comes in dark blue and was first released on 21 February 2015 until it was discontinued in October 2019. In the same year it was released it was followed by the Tomica Event Model in August 2015 at the Tokyo Tomica Expo with a designated No.11 with a single Star* (* Depending on the star rating for its rarity).
The model in the spotlight here is the Toyota Land Cruiser (70 Series) based on the double-cab pick-up in dark red with white stripes that have the “Tomica Event Model” on its hood. The construction of this model shows the double cab is entirely made of die-cast while the bed and base are made of plastic. It is a hefty model with moving parts like opening doors and working suspension.
Off-Road Cruiser
This model has all the detailed trims including the red tail lights for a 1/71 scale which is very basic for an event model, while the headlights are part of the clear tint windows. It retains the same wheel type used in the mainline release but adds the white stripe and “Tomica Event Model” as Tomica only releases two colour variations in its release with the second version being “Special” while these are considered models sold at event exclusives.
The silhouette of this 70 Series is nothing like the FJ40, but it has its own 90s appeal that it is still being manufactured in other territories. The model of course has been long discontinued and the only way to acquire this casting is through the in-store event in Manila, where you can still find this exact model.
Overall, any JDM collector who is into Tomica models won’t pass up the Toyota Land Cruiser (70 Series) with its boxy double-cab body type. Despite that, the bed and body colours don’t match up. But it is still a casting for the collectors of the Land Cruiser nameplate. The moving parts and suspension are a plus that makes this an attractive model to get as JDM vehicles are popular these days.
Toyota Land Cruiser (70 Series) is a Tomica Event Model designated No.11 with a Single Star rarity that was originally sold at the Tokyo Tomica Expo in August 2015, which was acquired at Toys R' Us in Ayala Malls Glorietta during one of their Tomica in-store Events for ₱ 200.00 Pesos ($ 5.48 AUD | $ 3.53 USD**). Tomica is distributed in the Philippines by Ban Kee.
