MBX Adventure City | Volvo V60 Wagon

Volvo is largely known for its award-winning safety feature, and its signature compact executive and estate cars. Their Volvo Estate CArs have evolved over the years to fit with the modern technologies of today. Their continued evolution has not changed for the type of car they are known for.

Matchbox has been known to produce some of their earlier models dating back to the 1980s with the Estate. Several castings followed and one of them was released in 2016 with the Volvo V60 Wagon, which is still being Manufactured by the Swedish company producing a second generation.

Despite the rise of SUVs and Crossovers, Volvo continues to produce their Estate Wagons as it is still in demand in other markets and territories. In the real world, the V60 Wagon has evolved with a crossover variant that also has adapted to manufacture a plug-in hybrid version.

The debut release in 2016 was Light Blue which screams colourful when it was part of the mainline basic assortment. The following year with this featured model it toned down to a little more of a realistic colour with metal flake brown. Of course, there’s a light blue version in real life. But Volvo is known for toning down with serious colours that Matchbox adapted for its sophomore release in 2017.

Executively Volvo

Volvo is known as a luxury car that thrives on safety, and it has earned awards with other companies adapting to their tried and true safety rating. But the one thing when you mention the name is that they are known for producing station wagons or in Europe known as an Estate car.

The V60 Wagon is known for its luxurious silhouette and modern contours while keeping the brand’s essence. Gone now are the boxy aesthetics that made it look boring for those who never truly appreciate Swedish Engineering. You can never go wrong when you see a Volvo it doesn’t stand out, but if you’re into cars beyond die-cast collecting you’ll understand why it is a well-known brand.

This vehicle is of course based on the Volvo V60 Compact Executive Car by Matchbox.

Key Features of the V60 Wagon below:

  • Year Release: 2017 | MBX Adventure City Subtheme
  • Base Color: Black | Plastic
  • Exterior Color: Metalflake Brown | Metal
  • Window: Smoke Tint
  • Tampo: Detailed Trim Front and Rear
  • Interior: Gray

Luxury Wagon

The casting released in 2017 is in metal flake brown having all the details from rear to front complete with painted grills and all the lights. Not to mention the logo and the model’s name that Matchbox has rarely done to most of their models. Just a plain and simple Estate car that takes inspiration from the real one.

This is the latest Volvo car that was released since the Volvo C30 was discontinued after 2011. The V60 Wagon’s second release might not be the same colour tone as the second release of the C30, but the choice of colours seems to mirror the way both cars have some sort of similarity. This casting may not be loud enough for most collectors to pick it up immediately from the pegs. But long-time collectors who are into cars would truly appreciate its brand significance in the auto industry.

Overall, the casting is still being produced today and released as part of a 5-pack themed series since 2019 with the latest being part of the MBX Wagons II for 2023. But the first two years of being a single-carded release were the ones that usually stand out since they are based on the original colours of the real car at the same time the details are spot on to not pass it up.

Volvo V60 Wagon is part of the MBX Adventure City segment series and overall MB14 released for the 2017 year, which the original short carded version was acquired at Coles Supermarket in Westfield Marion for $2.00 AUD (₱ 83.24 Pesos | $ 1.46 USD**). Matchbox is distributed in Australia by Mattel Pty., LTD. based in Richmond, Victoria.
